Default clutch adjustment problems?

2006 street glide,
Doing 5000m3 maintenace. Done to clutch adjustment, doing what the manual says. Have tried about 6 times now and everytime when I think I am done, I set theclutch leverfree play at approx. 1/16 to 1/8" and the clutch level will only pull it to within 1/4" of the handle bar. I can not get it to pull all the way to the handle bar. Any help on this would be appreicated.
Thanks

Guessing you messed with the clutch adj. under derby cover? You did something wrong. Go back and do it over, bike needes to be warm before adjustment.

Warm not hot, just enough to get the clutch turning and lubed before adjustment. If its been sitting cold for a few days.

Default RE: clutch adjustment problems?

thanks for your help, got it working fine now. pulled the clutch cable towards the rear of the bike inside the trans. and use the clutch handle tension method found on this form. Works great engages at approx. 1"out.
This form has saved me lots of grief and money, installed my own handlebars and 5000mile service with the info found on here and a shop manual.
Thanks again.
