Default Stock stereo vs ?

What a can of worms...lol
I bought 5 inch ex bags and fender and could not resist the 6x9 speaker covers.
So after reading allot. You have to buy a plug that goes in back of stereo. Im good with that. But now off to the moco to get the fader turned on. Ive read 100 bucks.

Im not a fan of the stock stereo anyway. So am I just better off getting an alpine? Ive seen install kits with them for the stereo the mount and the wiring for the controls....

Other hand. Allot of money going or gone on this conversion so far. Hmm cant decide.

Anyone using aftermarket stereo. what did you buy?

I didn't have a problem with the stock radio, just use it for the aux port. I have a Zumo 550 GPS with XM sat. radio. I also had to install an Alpine amp (KTP-445U) to bump the volume up. Its only a 45w amp, but I'm not trying to blast the neighbors out, just hear it better going down the road. The stock radio is only about 15 to 18 watts, so 45watts helps a lot. It was only about 160 bux, maybe cheaper than replacing the hole radio. Just a thought. Its also small enough to mount it on top of the radio.

The stock system is really pretty sad. I have a Kenwood with Biketronices install kit, Polk mm 6.5 in the fairing and JL C2 componets in the lowers/fairing gauge holes along with JL 400x4 Amp in fairing. ROCKS! Many ways to skin a cat, Check out the audio section for lots of good info.

The only advantage the stock unit has is its easy to see the display in the daytime and for the CB function. If you don't use CB, and can learn the menu system of the new head unit, aftermarket is definitely the way to go.

I still have the stock head unit but have a Biketronics 180 watt amp and Titan 7.1's. Really powerful and I'm happy with the upgrades but I've been considering changing the head unit to get better equalization control for a clearer sound. The stock head unit gives you no control other than bass, treble and balance.

I had JL Audio amps, speakers and subs in my Z06 vette years ago. Really good sound equipment and high quality for the price ten years ago. Their based down here local to me in Miramar I believe.

Almost any decent quality after market unit sounds better than the stock unit. For around $250-300 you can buy a decent radio and install kit, (if you go with the Scosche kit), sell your old radio if you want to break even.

Most stereos sound like crap in the wind. Why bother?

Not so much. I have a Sony HU with bluetooth and all the whistles and bells, sound stream pn4.520d amp, Biketronics Titan II speakers for the fairing, Biketronics retro radio kit and just painted my Hogtunes rear speaker lids which will have Pioneer 6x9s. Just with the BT7.1s and amp you can hear me blaring down the road when you are following me and my exhaust is loud. The 6x9s are going to take it to another level. Head on over to the audio section and you'll see that 95% of the people will throw out Biketronics as the way to go.

Unless y'all have found a way to isolate ambient road and wind noise, pumping hi fidelity into the air at higher, clearer volume changes nothing.

You see, I've been there, done that and spent lots of money along the way. The best solution I've found is a good pair of helmet speakers.

I park in motel lots during road trips. I sleep better, too not having to worry about theft or vandalism.
