One of the things I will be doing to my RGU is chrome front end. They look good with chrome wheel kits. What size wheel can you go to and not ruin the touring ride?

21x3.5 is the biggest without a lot of changes necessary. That si what I run. The ride is great.

The size might but I doubt the chrome will.

Seriously though, don't do it. The touring bikes look so much better with the nice thick rubber of a 16 or 17" front wheel.

I couldn't disagree more... first thing to go on my bike were the stock wheels. To each their own.

A 21" front wheel effects handling. Specifically, in my experience, the bike will turn in more quickly (not necessarily a good thing). This is something you will get used to quickly. They are also no fun on a grooved road surface, which makes the front end wiggle. On the other hand, I really like the look. I kept mine despite these issues. I am not, however, going to add one to my SGS. If you like the look, go for it.

19" wheel with proper low profile tire is the biggest ya can go without effecting handling. I am on my second one with a 21". I like the look and can live with slower/floppy turning. Fact is lean angle is so bad on these things scraping stuff is still the limiting factor no matter how much ya mess up the handling.
