I'm looking to upgrade the rear brakes on my '04 EG to the later model Brembo caliper. I have already made the swap on the front.
My question is, does anyone know the outer diameter of the rear axle of an '04 versus an '08 touring bike? I'm trying to determine if the bracket for the bolt on Brembo caliper will work with my '04 rear axle. Any suggestions or ideas would be most appreciated.
Thanks!
Someone can feel free to correct me, but I believe rear axle:
2004 = 1"
2008 = 25mm
Should work. Will need to hone the bracket to the same dimension as your current caliper bracket.
My understanding is that a longer brake cable is necessary to do that swap because the bleeder/banjo ends-up sitting higher than the old style caliper.
stay with the 1" axle drill out the bracket you only have to take out about .016" then comes the problem with the rotor not bolting to your rim
Yep. That's what I'd do.
It really sucks that the right front Brembo can't be used on the rear bracket. That would make it nice and easy to do a whole single-sided brake up front and upgrade the rear (on the older bikes) at the same time.
