Default Rear Tip Light - Need drilling template for brake/run light

Rear fender tip light not standard on the UK model Ultra Limited. I'm ready to install the brake / run light but OEM part does not include mounting screws/bolts or fender drilling template. Rear fender is without hole for wire to pass through or holes for mounting light as you can see in the attached pix.

Could use a diagram for drilling holes and screw size for mounting. See pix, gotta cover the ugly rivet on the fender!

Cheers, JT

Sorry to hear your having problems old chap. You can get screws from your local dealer and see part numbers on any of the on-line parts websites, like this one. You have the light unit there, so I reckon you may have to use that as a template, once you have the correct screws. Use a piece of stiff card (with a hole for the wires), wrap it around the inside of the light and mark the screw holes on it. Then remove and wrap it on the fender to transfer the locations of the holes.

You won't find US screw sizes available over here, except at specialist outlets, your H-D dealer will probably be as cheap and quick.

Default OEM Parts List

Thanks Graham. Your link to Granite State's OEM database is top-notch. The database will come in handy in the future.

May well need to make a template for the hole pattern as I've not yet received any info yet.

Looks as though the two screws needed are 10-16 x 1/2 torx pan heads. Surprised it didn't specify a washer.

I must admit I would use a washer, especially if you have to judge where the correct position for the hole is! If you have identified the correct thread you can buy suitable stainless fasteners from Stig Fasteners in Darlington. I use them for my own Harleys.

Since you guys might not be familiar with US screw threads, I'm going to put this out there: Number 10 machine screws are either 10-24 (coarse) or 10-32 (fine) threads. 10-16 must be a different kind of screw that makes its own threads in the plastic housing. Joe

Just measured mine carefully with a tape. Screws came with the light unit but I bought it in Florida not the UK. Also had to drill a hole for the cable to pass through the mudguard (fender).

Also installed an LED tail lamp and mounted the number plate under the tour pack. the new fender tip lamp plugged into the socket for the original UK number plate lamp.

Whole job only took about an hour or so.

Thanks guys. Harley-Steve, thanks for the tip. I very much like the idea of drilling the electrical lead hole through the existing mud-guard instead of the fender.

Still don't have the hole template but will make one as Graham suggested come Easter weekend.

Weather forecast for the weekend isn't good, so could be a good time to get stuck in!

If I had a hole-less fender,I'd be installing the Street Glide facia.
