Default Starting Issue 2012 limited

Just had a strange issue this morning with my 2012 Limited. Went to start it and all the gauge needles bounced off the extreme end of the gauge and went back to zero. All the lights came on , ABS, Low Fuel, cruise etc and then went off. Hit start button and started right up so I headed on down the road. Needed gas so pulled into gas pump, shut bike down, refueled and went to start the bike and same thing....needles flew to opposite end of gauge all lights flashed but this time nothing. Would not turn over or even try to start. Fiddled with all the switches including the fob and eventually got it to start. Took it right home wondering if it was the battery in the fob and shut it down again. Got my spare fob and went to start it and again nothing. Fiddled with all the switches again but this time could not get it to start. Left it sit and took the truck to work.

Kinda hoping it is a loose battery cable but will not know till I get home and have time to fiddle with it. Strange thing to me was the lights and radio did work when it would not turn over.

Any suggestions on this issue would be appreciated. I am sure others have seen this before.

1.) to bypass fob questions, use the PIN- you should have set a pin and know how to use it ( probably unrelated to this but a "speedpass" type transponder on gas pumps can interfere with the fob/alarm- as can other Harleys nearby or a RF rich environment...microwave oven, cordless phone etc.)

2.) everything depends on good power, make sure the battery is fully charged and that the cables are clean and tight- at both ends

3.) the needle sweep can indicate a busted or sticky odometer button- which initiates a WOW test, and can be used to display codes

that's for starters ( pun)

The result would likely be a bunch of codes that will further confuse you. I presume its under warranty, take it in.

I agree but if it just a loose battery cable I prefer to try that 1st and not lose a week to have dealer look at it.

Talked to dealer and they agree that most likely it is the battery cables but if not they will pick bike up on monday and look at it.

you said sticky button....

that would initiate wow test and sweeping gauges.

poke at the odo button.

many of us are in the habit of resetting odo at gas stops...so the sweeping gauge "event" often occurs at gas stations
