WHen yhou guys fill up with gas do you leave it on the sidestand or sit on it and fill it straight? One can obviously get more gas in if you do it on the sidestand but I'm not sure if you should do that or not.

 

Gas needs room to expand. If I am close to home I leave a little room, if I am on a big trip I squeeeeeeeeeeeze it in.........

 

I have filled the bike while sitting on it and can get a fair bit more in it. However if you do this make sure you are riding again right away. If you park it the extra fuel will flow out of the overflow.

Look where the vent holes are. The are at the 7 O'clock position and that tells you to fill it on the side stand so it won't overfill and vent on you. My softail was a sit on fueler as the vent holes were in the middle of both tanks. If you ride right away then you are probably ok with sitting on it to squeeze more in, but not if you are going to get some chow before you ride.

The only people I know who fill their bikes up while they are still on them have never had gas on their crotch.

 

i never sit on my bike white fueling....they say there is always a chance you can create a spark and ignite. also just for everyones info...you should always make sure the gas nozzle is always touching the metal opening to ground it from sparking....obviously SIDESTAND

 

I agree with Screamin Eagle... ALWAYS use the side stand.
