So with no air you don't feel a difference?? I haven't done this yet and it was a winter project. I understand it's most noticeable with potholes, etc. No as much of a hit.

I will give it a shot and up-date my findings. Thanks.
What year? 10w amsoil works great up to 08, 09 the valving changed and the 10w amsoil is a little too heavy, I mixed 5/10 for 7.5, not all oil in the same wt group are the same, find a good viscosity chart to make your selection.

I did a redneck viscosity check on the stock shock oils on an 09 and 14 set of shocks. I drilled a small hole in the bottom of a container and timed how long it took to drain 4 ounces. I also tested Bel Ray shock oils in different viscosities. The stock Harley oil in the 09 and the 14 compared almost identically to 5w oil. I wonder if a better 5w shock oil like BelRay HV1 shock (not fork) oil would be an improvement over stock.

14 King. I cant feel any improvement in the shocks compared to my 11 King. The air pressure for the best ride I can get is the same for both the 11 and 14 King 10 to 12 lbs. I've been from no air up to 28 lbs, at that point my but flips off the seat on larger bumps.
I would love to see a new Rushmore suspension, all it would take is about 1.5" more travel and a little better shock.

I didn't like my brothers 09 shocks either, even after the fluid change. If its a budget issue, get a set of pre-09 shocks, put the 10W Amsoil in and You will see a difference, otherwise bypass all the middle of the road products, contact Howard at Motorcycle Metal and get some Ohlins or JRIs.

Ok,

So I made the "upgrade" today, added Amsoil 10 to the shocks, noticeably stiffer shock action (remember this is on a 1200XLC not a glide and the bike is half the weight) I think it may be slightly it too stiff, will see the coming week.

Front forks got the same treatment Amsoil 10 there too.

All around cleaning & adjustments needed every 8K, so I'm off to the city tomorrow.

regards N keep it on the rubber.

I went from the stock 5 weight on my '06 Street Glide to 15 weight. Big improvement, such that I put my long range plans for Progressive shocks off the list.
