I finally wore out the Dunlop front tire. Instead of going back to the dealer, I went to an independent shop. He ordered and installed a Pirelli Night Dragon tire. Same size as the Dunlop. and it handles as good, if not better than the original tire. You have my $0.02 worth of an opinion. Your results may vary.

I must change the front tire on the Freewheeler from my wife, and I was wondering if we couldn't fit a square profile tire to the extent that the trike turns flat and if that wouldn't be better for handling and grip than a bike tire which has a round profile, would that be has anyone ever done this?

Sound like you are talking about a car style tire. In bike world this is called going to the "darkside". Sidecar folks have been doing that for years. Let us know how it works for you

If handling is the concern, looking into an upgrade in front suspension may be helpful.

Freewheelers typically have smaller tires in comparison to the Tri Glides, and handling and comfort can be an issue.

Adding some Intiminator values may be worth considering.
