Default '22 freewheeler dampener

Has anyone removed their steering damper? The bolt that holds the bracket to the frame on mine broke today. I rode it about 16 miles without it. It seems to handle better with it gone. I may leave it off for a while and see how it handles. Has anyone else taken off theirs?

1. Take it back to the dealer for warranty replacement.
2. You do not want to buy a dampener.
3. Do you know why it broke?
4 Which bolt broke?

At higher speeds you need the dampener.

I added an engine guard after I bought it so I could use soft lowers. It uses a different bracket. The head of the bolt that bolts the bracket to the down tube broke. I think it broke crossing g some rough railroad tracks.

Did the dealer install the engine guard?

Cool Breese, the bolt that broke is not pictured in your diagram. It threads into what would be number 11. Thae engine guard has a threaded tab that replaces number 11 and the main bracket is a little bit different. I got a replacement bolt and put the damper back on.
