Default You can't do THIS on a 2-wheeler

You can tell it was only "winter light" out there, because the trike looks black when its actual colour is Haze Gray with those neat "sparkles" in the paint.

After a prolonged period of cold weather, we had an unusual January day today. I was able to take a 52km = 32 mile ride on the trike, even though there is snow and ice in places! With ice and snow patches in places, you cannot do that on a two-wheeler! The third wheel makes all the difference!

The temperature during the ride ranged from 3C to 4C = 38 to 40F, and the wind was gusting up to 45 kph = 28 mph and was a sidewind both ways, but the electric jacket liner, the heated grips, the Klim jacket, the Klim long underpants, and the Harley armoured pants combined to make the ride rather comfortable!

I was so comfortable that I would have gone much further, but the wind gusts were getting stronger and stronger as I rode, requiring handlebar pressure to keep the trike from moving sideways in the lane. Shortly after I got home, the wind gusts got to 80 kph = 50 mph! So, my timing was truly excellent.

One other interesting note: The weather was cold enough to lower the initial (cold) tire psi just enough to trigger the tire pressure monitoring system warning light. The tires heated quickly once I was riding, but the TPMS system took a long time to recognize that the psi was ok:
- It showed the left rear tire getting up to “acceptable” psi within a few minutes, but
- The right rear tire’s sensor took a LONG time to shut off the warning light, even though the actual psi in both tires was showing as identical after the ride
- The front tire sensor NEVER thought the psi was acceptable, even though the front tire psi after the ride was exactly what it was supposed to be.

The HD TPMS sensors must not be the “best” quality.

Wanna bet?
Last year (before I had the trike) we did several 100plus mile missions in 20-30 degree weather.

Low 30s this day.

It was 22* when I left the garage to ride an hour away to accept the transfer, from 6 riders from N Carolina, of a veteran and his wife’s remains, to be interned the following day.
This was my Ride Captain in front.

I'm impressed that you were able to ride at 20 degree temperatures, and also impressed that you did for a good cause. The presence of any ice or snow would make me say no to a 2-wheeler ride.

By the way, I took this ride TODAY because the weather forecast says tomorrow's high will be -11C = 12F ! BIG change. You gotta take the opportunities right when they arise.

I only see snow in the OP pictures, although commendable to ride in the cold for PGR

If you mean my photo (the first one in this thread): Those patches in the froeground, on the road versus in the field, ARE ice.

Pretty sure that was intended as a “dig” on my post.

If so, that was not a nice thing to say.
