Default Hand/wind Guards

I know this has been talked about before, maybe even by me, but I cannot find it. So I will ask again.

What is everyone using, if anything, for hand/wind guards on your handlebars? I've found a few, but want to know some that actually work.

Thanks!

I have the National cycle light smoked hand guards. I cannot compare to others, but they work great. I did not have a photo so I took this a few minutes ago. These have been on this bike for 16 years.

Thank you guys for the responses and pictures. They all look good, and even more so work well. Gives me some options to look at!

I have a set of Memphis shades in the light smoke. $40 plus shipping if you want.

I will add these comments about handguards. I’ve had several other styles on different motorcycles. I’ve used them since 2005.

1. the style isn’t important if they work. I chose the National Cycle because they are almost invisible, while on another bike I had a solid black streamline design. Both work to keep my hands warmer and dry when moving.
2. Year round, they allow thinner or more comfortable gloves. I thought in hot (100F+) days, I’d want to remove them. I do not. They protect from rocks and big bugs and even a grosbeak once. While they break the wind, my hands are comfortable year round.
3. I have heated grips. With the hand shields, heated grips become magic warmers. On chilly mornings, a low setting keeps the fingers nimble until it warms up. With the heated grips, I’m good for all day rides with comfortable hands down to about 35F. Shorter rides a little colder.
4. I carry two or three pair of gloves. My heavy gloves are a gauntlet style with a soft enough palm to allow me to feel the heat easily. I carry a mid weight soft gauntlet and then lightweight gloves. When I stop, it things have warmed up or cooled off, I change gloves.

Aside from removing the wind, cold and rain from your hands, I’ve found that they have done a fantastic job at protecting my hands from impacts from object thrown up by traffic. In the picture, you can see a number of dings and dead bugs from my last ride. I tour, so this additional comfort is great. One other fact that I’ve noticed is that my gloves last years longer. I’m not sure it’s the handguards, but my working gloves from 20 years ago still look new. They don’t weather as fast, dry out and remain soft and flexible.

$20 pair from Amazon. Cheap and effective. I put them on for a trip to Yellowstone, more for debris and bugs then cold weather. Left them on for the winter, they are an excellent upgrade if your grips are not behind the fairing, carry on.

I have the same as son of the hounds. Simple to attach on the mirror. Real cheap so nothing much of a loss.
