Just a couple of things to try. Release the reverse button while coasting, before you put the break on. This will give the disengage spring time to release the reverse gear from the flywheel. Also, try driving up an incline, and coasting down the incline. As mentioned several times in the 3 pages of posts from old timers who rode before reverse, think ahead before parking.

I have a 2011 Tri Glide.
I seldom use the reverse.
Even HD dealers told me that it is fragile.
Being a short legged person, it is an effort to walk it backwards, but I've gotten good at it.
Bottom-line, it's in the shop now getting its 3rd replacement motor.
The last two took me almost a month each to get the bike back.
Dealer said HD required the motor be sent to them for inspection BEFORE they would send the replacement.
Four(4) reverse motors in four(4) years on a new bike....!!!!
Is anyone interested in starting a class action?
UPDATE: HD nolonger requires the dealer to send the motor back for inspection before shipping the replacement

Is anyone interested in starting a class action to get HD to install mechanical reverses?

I have seen people backing across the parking lot. Not a bright idea.
Just say'n......
As far as trying to force Harley to change to a mechanical reverse,,,, They will tell you this is how we build them, & they work for what we want in a reverse assist device to just help move the heavy Trike to the point you can move it without using the reverse.
Also, if you want something different they will be happy to install it for you for a price.
I have had one motor for my '12 working for over 3.5 years. I use every time I take the Trike out at least 2-3 times/ 3 to 5 times a week. No problems other than it won't back up much of a grade. But saying that, it might quit tomorrow. LOL !!
But go ahead, I just don't think you are going to win.
JMHO.....

I am very careful about how and when I use reverse.
I did have the lockup happen one time and it was my fault.
I put the bike in gear before it was completely stopped rolling backward.
Tripped the breaker once trying to unload from a trailer, before I put the lift kit on.
Other than that, I have no problem with reverse and I use it regularly.

My reverse went out today.also all my gauges quit working.dealer said it would be 3 weeks before they get to it.what I don't under stand is if it's going to take that long why don't they get you a rental car.this is my only means of transportation.if a car breaks down under warranty a dealer will get you a rental until it's fixed
