Just got a 1978 Sporster XLCH. Nice Mustang seat and Softail tank. Looks like a bigger bike. Can't wait for snow to melt. I currently ride a CBR because it was cheap wheels but couldn't wait until I could upgrade to the V-Twin. Front controls are the absolute first thing to do.

While I'm here...does anyone know how to remove the cloudiness on the gauges plastic. It's almost impossible to read.

P.S. The tassels are already gone.

Welcome to da board. Have never had any luck getting rid of the cloudiness; I always replaced 'em. But maybe someone here will have an idea.

Replace the gauges or the "glass?"

 

Usually the gauges, but once in awhile I'd get lucky and find a gauge that didn't work, but had good glass. Then if I held my tongue just so in my mouth, was all prayed up, and hadn't ticked THE MAMA off within the last 67 days, I'd sucessfully replace the glass. Then it'd fog up next time it rained and I'd take a hammer to the gauges, and show THE MAMA why I really needed new gauges.

I've never had any luck with the old plastic stuff either.

Mine were replaced with Drag Specialty guages.

 

I cant give you a product name, but in the aviation industry there are products used to clean/buff plastics, primarily used on the underside of helicopters viewing floorboards, which are constantly subject to scour from the prop blast during take-offs, and landings. You can also use this product on windshields. Welcome to the forum, and nice bike, its different from what you normally see.

 

Ironhead, what ones did you replace with? All these gauges I look at are too "new" looking for an older bike.
