Question Thinking about getting a HD

Hi, I'm new here and I'm thinking about getting one of the DYNA Motorcycles. Never had a Harley before but had some Jap Bikes about 30 years ago. I'm 56, Retired and getting the fever but I dont know very much about HD's. I want to do some reserch so I can get the best bike for me and I have plenty questions.

Question 1,
where Can I find a exploaded view of the 96 engine and trans ?

Question 2,
I see some of the 96 engines are different, how does that work ?

buy or borrow a shop manual and it will have an exploaded view..

touring and dynas uses a rubber mounted motor (A) and softails use a (B) motor. Balanced crankshaft...

just use the search bar in here or google and U'll find all the reading info U want..

Welcome from North Georgia. Yours sounds like a similar story. My wife and I got the bug visiting a HD dealer near Fort Collins/Denver area at New Years. At 55 I hadn't ridden since being a teenager 37 years before (and my wife never had). I did the Sportster trade deal in February and traded up to a Heritage after 10 weeks and about 2100 miles (my wife is moving from a metric to the HD Tri Glide). If you are thinking new, I believe there is another trade-up deal going on and you can get some free time on a Sportster that way before you move up. Just a thought.

welcome to the forums, The dyna are great bikes with good handling. I think you will be satisfied. I would suggest going to a local harley dealer and check out the features that you like on the models. Take a test drive to make sure that you are satisfied. The 96's have excellant power and are extremely light in the dyna frame. To bad you live a distance away. I have a 2009 Fat Bob that I am selling cheep. Enjoy your stay in the forums.
