I was ask by a friend how to remove the rear wheel on a BMC Chopper.
Seemed like an easy question to answer but after taking a look at how the wheel Axle is set up I am not sure and do not want to do any damage to the hub.
the fasteners are 2 3/4 bolts one on either side of course which thread into shafts, spacers what ever to call them which are inside the hole of the swing arm frame.
My first thought was to tap the threaded collars inward to allow the collar to move inward allowing the spacer slide out of the swing arm frame.
They didn't easily move so I went no further with this.
any ideas how this is designed and intended to come apart?
Thanks in advance for any help
mystery solved
it is a solid axle which can be removed either direction.
when assembled there wasn't a drop of never seize put on the shaft.
causing it to be rusted and very stuck. using a drift punch inside the thread hole and after a lot of tapping it finally came loose.
I know this thread is a bit out dated but I've acquired a BMC Hooligan 240 with a rev tech 100. Problem I'm having is the rear axle I can't for the life of me figure out how to loosen it up so I can make an adjustment to final drive belt. Any help from anyone would be appreciated. It would definitely make things easier with just a regular rear axle loosen the nut and done.
