Default SE Detonator front rim - fitment on 84-99 forks ?

What is needed to adapt a SE 16 x 3" Detonator front wheel like this one ?

the bike where i want to use this is an `88 FXR with aftermarket mid glide trees, stock 39mm legs and the front wheel is a 16 x 3 factory HD 9-spoke wheel from that era with stock dual disc 84 - 99 calipers.

From my research the SE Detonator wheel had been made for `00 up Tourers, but cannot proof for sure.

I am guessing i would have to swap the bearings for the smaller axle that i have.

How about brake discs and fitment otherwise ? Is the hub width different ?

Speedo is no issue as i am using an electronic one.

Can you post pic(s) of your set-up...

16x3 9-spoke Front seems odd...unless you really meant 16x3 10-spoke front or a 16x3 9-spoke Rear made in to Front.

Detonators were made in several front configurations (16x3 "Touring" was one)...the one you link looks like a FL Softail 16x3 Front (wideglide).

Hey multihdrdr
you`re right in both cases, the Evo Tourers with 16" mag wheels had 10 spokes at front, i just did not dive into that matter when saying my front rim is a 9 spoke.
But it must have been a rear wheel originally as i did not see 9 spokes stockwise so far as a front wheel.
You`re correct on the Detonator wheel too, this one was offered for Softails, i have now bought that wheel and checked the part number.

It says :
"....FRONT WHEEL KIT, DETONATOR 16 X 3 INCH WHEELS
New Harley Davidson FL Softail Detonator three spoke 16" front wheel fits 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 FLSTC models and 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 FLSTF models (except '06 FLSTFSE2).
Forged from 6061 aircraft aluminum, the wheel design
and the edge details are forged on an 8 000 ton press at Alcoa® Aluminum resulting in a surface that is tight smooth, takes a chrome finish like a mirror and it`s highly non-porous surface offers great resistance to the elements.

That`s the front as is :

The Detonator wheel looks different on it`s hubs, one seems to stick out further :

I have checked with my existing rotors, the inner ID has to be opened up a bit, other than that they should fit as the bolt pattern is the same.

The SE wheels have bigger OD sealed bearings, but the axle diamater is the same.

So it looks like i only have to space them to be centered and open up the rotors ID, or do i miss something ?

Yes, it appears that a REAR was made into a Front....probably matching the rear you have in place? (bags blocking view)

If you're sure it's a Midglide conversion (not Wideglide conversion), some machine work to the width of the wheel probably would have needed to be done if used on a Midglide...unless maybe someone made a custom "Midglide" (if someone is making all the associated parts, they can make their "Midglide" any dimension they desire)

Yes, you can bore the rotor center if re-using. Otherwise you can use any 2000-later 11.5" hub-mounted rotor for the new-to-you wheel.

Again, depending on how/if they "fit" that existing wheel to a Midglide, spacing may or may not be an issue

The rear on it is a disc wheel, so maybe the 9 spoke rear rim up front was choosen just because it was available for the previous owner or prefered look above the 10 spoke front rim.

Yes the trees are true mid glide, 230mm center/center instead of 250mm wide glide width.
Those meanwhile became my prefered look too, vs narrowglide or 250mm wide glide trees.

I will report back with pics, once i got the wheel fitted, may take a while, maybe next winter.
Thanks for your input, multihdrdr !

I see...well if your is 230mm is accurate, then it would be slightly wider than Harley produced midglide specs (let's use 06-later dyna for example)

230mm (9.055") VS. 215.9mm (8.5")
