Question wire wheels need to be trued every so often ?

I run a '03 Fatboy, but I've been looking at a '08 Road King. A friend who rides a Road King, said that the wire wheels need to be trued every so often to keeps shakes away. Is he blowing smoke, or is this something that actually needs to be done with the wired wheels ? He had mag wheels installed on his.

Yes they need checked at every tire change and a couple times during riding season I do my own tires so no big deal to check the true at tire change time. Do a spoke check a couple of times during riding season

I bought my first Harley back in the 1970s and happened to be at the shop when the dealer took in a Sportster wheel for a new tyre to be fitted. All bikes had wire wheels back then. The first thing the dealer did was remove the old tyre, tube and rim-tape then put the wheel in a trueing jig. Yes it needed trueing and several spokes trimmed. That has stayed with me ever since and emphasises what Kaycee has said above.

Yup, checking wheel integrity is a good idea. Broke spokes can make any rider nervous, especially if it's 3 or 4 of 'em...

Nobody wants a "folded up" wheel on the next pothole with a passenger aboard...
