Old top gaskets out

Forgot pic of front lower gasket. This is the old rear gasket. The front was red and didn't seem as stiff as this one. I'm guessing the PO replaced the rear and not the front. I only had a front leak, but did both just in case. PO paid dealer for all work so I'm guessing they only did as "required".

Rear wheel off ground, both plugs out - rotated rear wheel to 5th and front cover off.

Lower off. Cleaning off the old gasket residue took the longest. Side note: should I be concerned about how rusty that bolt is?

Rear required undoing some of my wire tuck to allow for unplugging temp sensor to get covers off.

Top down shot to show access. Didn't require special tools and while tight, everything easily came out and went back in the primary side. Air cleaner stayed on the whole time.

Old rear lower gasket. Different in color/texture (more like the Cometic I put on) from the front. Guessing PO had a rear leak. He paid dealer for all service so likely didn't want to pay to preemptively replace the front... I only had a leak in the front, but wanted to do both for piece of mind and presumed they were both same age.

On one of the Youtube videos I watched the guy mentioned that getting the old fiber washers off took him more time than anything. Here's my TIP/method. I used a razor to trace between the metal/fiber. This allowed most to free up and just twist off the bolt. The ones that did broke into pieces that were easy to (carefully) scrape off the rest of the way with the razor. Easy breezy. Side note: the Cometic kit came with replacements as well as gaskets for the breathers (not pictured).

They're basically brass sleeves that true up the fit of the bolts on the air cleaner side. This is one pushed in to it's "taper". From here you use the factory bolt to "pull/push" the sleeve the rest of the way in. The kit comes with a washer and nut that fits the factory bolt.

Top down shot for perspective. The one on the left is already fully inserted. Right one is down to the tapered shoulder by hand.

Install done. You can see it just sleeves the hole nicely.
