AZ Bike Week, 2006- Spent 2 weeks in Scottsdale, AZ, with the scoot, the Huskies, and some local Phoenix area friends.

Back in AZ in 2005, "Russian Disco Night" at a local pub, brought out some 'Rusky' lovelies to dance and show off that they are not the big, ugly farm women we were told all those cold-war years! This gorgeous mother-daughter team, who asked me to take their picture on my bike, is proof of that!

A composite of several pix takes along the ride from Sturgis to Mt. Rushmore, THE favorite spot for rally participants, during the week-long Black Hills Rally. The mountain goat was just perched on a rock above the highway, watching the bikes go by!

Sturgis 2004- Sweet Freedom parked at the Arlen Ness booth where I has a Ness triple-tree adapter installed. Like everything else 'except FLSTS', the un-standard tree of of the FLSTS will not accept many add-on devices, without such an adapter (only made by Ne$$), which I needed for my new instrument cluster.

E pluribus unum- The H-D 100th Anniversary, 4-day bash, brought bikes and bikers from around the world! Unlike any other bike rally I have eve been to in the past 36 years, I met 'bikers' from all over the world, some whose only English was "Harley-Davidson"! Here is Sweet Freedom, parked among the tens of thousands of Harleys, outside of the Summerfest grounds at Lincoln Park in Milwaukee.

My lovely second wife 'Kea', unwittingly poses for a pseudo-poster I made for the H-D 100th. Note the 'reflections' of nearby office buildings in the glass (and glasses) which were lit up with H-D congratulatory signage during the festival. This was to be the last event we would attend together, before she went her own way, after a short, 5-year marriage! :-( (I still have the bike though! :-))

One last ride- Kea and I, on our way from Mequon, to downtown Milwaukee for a Steppenwolf concert at the 100th!

The T-shirts, in familiar H-D orange and black, said only "083103", the countdown clock that everyone in Wisconsin knew well!

Scoot on Daytona Beach, 2003- One of the few beaches left in America where motorcycles can still ride along the shore, where the first Daytona bike races were held, almost 100 years ago!

Proud Papa- After sleeping on HD's 'waiting list' for my 2003 100th Anniversary Springer for 6 months, then being told HD was only allowing dealerships to sell a limited number, on first come, first served basis, and returning my deposit, I could not wait any longer. So in Sept., 2002, I found this baby, literally in a barn, in the little farm town of Lyons, Wisconsin, a few miles outside of Milwaukee. I had barely 5000 miles on it. '97 was the very first FLSTS made, and the one that got me hooked. In '97 there were only 2 'Heritage Springers' available, both were white. One with blue trim, one with red. I always like the blue, so this bike had my name on it!

Although I wanted a 100th Anniversary model, I could not wait for H-D to get off the dime, and start selling them, so I semi-reluctanlty bought a 'like new-used' FLSTS. I was a happy rider once again!

I was content that I had a bike with it's own claim to fame, being the first of a line, that no one knew at the time, would end in 2003, when the last FLSTS would be sold. 'Springers' had a bad rap from the old days, supposedly an uncomfortable ride, which is why the 'hydra-glide' front ends had replaced them 50 years earlier. But they did not deserve the rap, as I had ridden both, and this bike rode as smoothly as any pneumatic I had ridden, but H-D is about $$$, and I guess the sales were not justifying the assembly line requirements, so they stopped making them. Possible 'protests' brought them back, as they re-released a 'Springer Classic' in 2005(?), and still have at least one Springer model available today, for us die-hard 'spring-heads'.
