Default Accessory electric tap on softail?

Can anyone tell me the best / easiest place to tap electrical power on the accessory circuit to pull power for an intercom/radio system? I see HD sells a tap/plug for the 'Glide... but nothing for the softail.

Bike in question is '07 Heritage.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hey KWD FLSTC...on my '07 Fat Boy there is a built in tap for future use accessories...this is an unswitched tap, and I am not sure if it is fused or not. Remove the tank, directly at the tail end of the tank and a few inches down is a gray connector and a 12 gauge red wire taped to a crossmember and not connected to anything. This is my 12v tap. Not sure if yours is like this on not...but I hope this information helps.

Good luck!

Steve

Hi,

I have an 07 FXST and am looking for an accessory tap to hook a gps unit to. Preferably using some type of cigarette lighter type of connection! Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Kayak

I made a l bracket out of alum. pop riveted it to the bottom of the coil cover
installed a cig. lighter good for all kind of stuff wired direct to battery in line fuse
I use mainly for cell phone charger..

The solution I went with is this:

http://www.powerletproducts.com/prod...erbar_plus.php

and this same place sells a variety of short cables for Garmin GPS units. I used this on a road trip recently and it works out very well with the built in hole to screw the ram mount ball into. When I would stop and leave my ride unattended I just popped the GPS (mount, cable and all) off and put it in my top case. Installing it properly is a slight challenge since I had to run a wire guide up the wiring channel under the gas tank to pull the wires back from the handlebar to under the seat, but once that was done wiring it up went pretty well.
