Default I've been cussing like a sailor at Harley....

I am in the middle of installing a quick detach setup bracket on my RG. The right side went on last night with some issues and I solved my issue on the left side with the stripped torx and moved on. The quick detach bracket mounts to the RG at 3 points. One of which uses the antenna mount point and the other two uses the holes for the saddlebag support mounting bracket. The to torx screws are removed and the frame for the detach is bolted up to the two holes with new bolts. The front bolt goes thru the frame, then thru a bracket that is part of the round tube that runs around the rear seat on the bike and then bolts directly to the fender. Simple enough right? Horse hockey!

The front bolt that goes thru the bracket that is part of the tube will NOT line up squarely since that bracket has a flat bottom and is NOT completely round. I can take a punch or anotehr tool and then apply some pressure to make the holes line up. However, when bolting the bit*h up, I cannot do that. Despite trying to bolt up the front of the frame for over an hour, it just would not go... not going to happen... the other side had similar issues but I managed to get it to catch. The left side is mission almost impossible. So close, yet so far.

Who else has gone thru this and what did ya do?

Thanks

I bet they heard me in Boise Idaho all the way from N. Florida. What a waste of time working on one damn bolt... my fingers are aching and the damn bolt is still not in lmao...

I had a similar issue. I let the air out of my shocks, unbolted the exhaust where it is attached at the rear of the bike, and then put pressure on the rear fender until it lined up and I got it to engage. Not sure which of my actions did the trick. It still took several tries after all that but it did finally catch.

Took me most of an afternoon to get mine mounted also. Mine was a quick detach for a tour pak.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I loosened up the rear of the brackets where the exhaust bolts up etc but did not remove them. I'll give that a go and remove the air from the shocks too.

Yeah, I did the same thing. Attached is my set of instructions, to be used in conjunction with the HD garbage instructions.

I had a bitch of a time with the same thing. Finally got it to go by using phillips screwdriver in one of the holes to pry it over (careful don;t scratch the fender) and finally got it to thread on...

someone told me afterwards it would have lined up better if I had the bike on a jack instead of the sidestand... but I don;t see how that would help and never went back to try it again once I had the hardware on.

Yes its a motha f***** , throw away the directions , they are for several different models and are confusing. Remove one bolt at a time or it is hard to line up the bolts.
