Appears these are H-O-T items!! Just saw where Harley Davidson has a Mid-Frame Heat Deflector under New Products on their website.
How do you choose between Harley's- Kury's Saddle Shields - KoolKings - KoolThighs - RJS Originals - & who knows how many more are out there. Getting too many to choose from.
Any preferences or experiences you'd like to share in helping me decide?? Thx.
I have seen the saddle sheilds by Kuryakyn, but they are made of plastic, or appear to be. I would be afraid of breaking one when I lower my legs at a stop. An the others I have seen made of leather or leather like material, I would think would blow in the wind while riding. I will have to do some more research myself. I have a '05, and yes it gets a tad hot during big rides I have been on, but only a tad uncomfortable. So I will wait til someone makes a better mouse trap, sort-of speak.
These Look GREAT - Fit looks good and runs with the lines of the bike & I would check these out way before buying plactic Junk ... Remember you normally what you pay for
On those rjs sheilds, they seem to sit on the rocker box and come in contact with the side covers. Are there any issues with this burning on the rockers, or rubbing off the paint?
I put the kuryakyn on my 07 ultra they look awesome and do the job, but I also put a Fuel Pak on and had my bike remap. so between the two it did the job. had some what of a problem with install. The piece that snaps into the plastic side cover did not want to snap in place, just one side for some reason. So grinded a little bit and it worked. GOOD LUCK!
I got a set of JR,s about a month ago. Ive ridden about 500 miles, at temps up to 85 degrees. they work wonders. As Texasredneck reminded me, they are not a heat insulator but a heat shield. They really work in town at a stoplight. They slide under the wire track and under the lower right edge of the right side cover and yes they stay in place with only a Velcro patch stuck to the frame in 2 places. They are aluminum with a covering on the outside and trimmed on the edge. A little pricey but,I,m happy with mine.
I installed the HD mid framers. So far, they appear to do the job. The only problem is that the air is directed up against the tank. I wonder if the added heat will mess up the clear coat and/or the paint job.
