I noticed that my fuel gauge with not give an accurate reading between 3/4 and 1/4 tank. My tank will read 7/8 or full, then within a few miles will go down to a 1/4 of a tank.
I think the sending unit is crap. Has anyone experienced this?
My 07 Nighttrain does the exact same thing. I just broke 500 miles and it has been erratic from the start. I filled up my tank and 47 miles later the gauge is reading 1/2 a tank.
Mine did it too, but after a 1000 miles it started working a little better.
Might be that the pivot on them just needs a bit of wear to smooth them out.
In any event I have NEVER trusted any fuel gauge on a bike and use one of the trip meters to keep track of it.
Its easier to refill the tank every 150 or so miles andnever have to bother worrying about it.
I also keep a couple of 5 gal cans of high test in the garage and make a habit of filling the tank from them if I don't have time to stop at the station before I get home. That way its always full when I leave and I know that I'm good forat least150/200 miles.
I have the Kuryakyn led fuel gauge and I find that it is very accurate alot more the the HD analog. Just this morning the led gauge started falshing red, about 10 miles later had to switch to reserve.
