Default exhaust question number 2,347

Probably beating a dead horse here. But...........

V and H Straightshots:

1. Drastic difference between full pipes and slip-ons?
2. Can I get them slashcut like Cycle Shacks/drag pipes?
3. Baffles in, difference in sound between Cycle Shack slip-ons?

And the all important opinion question:

Given the choice between Cycle Shack (slashcut) slip-ons or V&H Straightshot slip-ons...............which one would you pick for your '06 1200C?

Thanks all.

1. Enough of a difference, the sound is better(thats an opinion only)with the full exhaust set.
2. No
3. Similiar

Cycleshack has alot of slip on part #'s, maybe be a bit more specific as to which part # your referring to.

Easy question...I chose the V&H Straightshots HS SO....

Here's why:

I didn't want a system that I'd have to remove the crossover. For me, the crossover works because I prefer to have better low end and mid-range torque for the type of riding I do. I couldnt justify spending the extra coin to remove perfectly good stock headers. From what I know, there is no difference between the V&H SO vs the Full System except the full system will give you more performance in the higher RPM if your bike is tuned for that...Ported Heads, Rejet, AC, ignition etc. If you're keeping the stock setup with a simple rejet and high flow AC, slip ons will work fine. The full system also has a little longer pipes but you can adjust the heat shields on the Slip-Ons to make them appear a little longer.

As far as sound is concerned, they both sound very similar to my ears. They are basically the same muffler but as I mentioned with different headers (I actually called V&H about this to get some technical data). Some guys claim the full system is a little louder but I"m not sure about that. To me they are both loud. You can install the V&H quiet baffle for a few decibels lower sound but a little deeper rumble (again to my ears). These give the V&H the mellow sound we Harley buffs have grown to love...they cost $26 ea. on sale (I just ordered these today :-)

V&H does not make the Straightshots in slash cut and the hot tips they offer for other pipes do not fit them either.

All in all, you really can't go wrong with choosing V&H. They make quality products and they have a good reputation. Comparing them to Cycle Shack, I'd say they are one notch better. Thats not to say Cycle Shack is junk because they are not and they are probably a better value too. You can actually get a full Cycle Shack system for almost the same price as V&H slip-ons. Compared to V&H, I believe you will get a little more rumble out of the Shacks, especially if you do not upgrade to the quiet baffles in the V&H. All of these are nice sounding pipes. Check out www.vanceandhines.com. They have a good website where you can take a closer look at their products.

If you do choose V&H, like I mentioned, be ready to spend a little more money....they are higher priced then some of the others but you can still find some good deals out on the net.

Good Luck!

Look around a lot before you buy because i thought i had made up my mind on a set of pipes and when i went to the dealership to get them i seen a hole knew book of pipes and found a set i like better and plus different people like different sounds i personally don't like the look of a straght pipe and others do so really try and shop around i spent 3 mounths shoping for a set of pipes and i am sure there is a set that i never seen that i would of liked better so just take your time.

Like you said everyone likes something different. When I got my sportster last year put krome werks slipons, liked the pipes but just could nt get used to cross overpipe. guess growing up in 70s an 80s never had seen these before. So ordered a set of 2" drag pipes on ebay for 99.00 an cut them down to accept my krome werks. Without crossover pipe bike sounds good, looks better an can finally get into adjust carb jets without having to take whole air cleaner assembly off. All total about 275.00 invested along with alittle work. Here in Texas that crossover pipe thru alot of heat on 100 degree riding days.Dont notice anything different on low end torque.

Has anyone put these on???? S&S AIR CLEANER AND EXHAUST QUICK SET UPS? Link: http://www.sscycle.com/modules/featu...hp?lid=4&cid=1

Site says for around $500 you get teardrop AC, slip-ons, and rejet kit for carb. I don't know actual/best price.

I don't have those on my bike, but I have seen that set up on some of my buddies bikes and from what I've heard about it, it's a real good one. I have heard the S&S exhausts and they sound awsome. They are kind of loud but not overly loud and they have a very very clean deep rumble to them. They are not raspy like some exhausts. Personally, to my ears they are one of the better sounding exhausts I have heard on a Sportster. I didn't select them however, because they only come in slash down, which I did not want. The AC kit S&S makes is top notch as well. That particular setup, slip-ons and AC is supposed to be really good for an increase in performance. The tear drop AC also looks cool...Good luck!

I thought about that combo but went with Cycle Shack's Tappered slip-ons, the S&S Teardrop A/C, and a jet kit. MUCH less expensive and I got the sound I was looking for out of the Cycle Shacks, as well as maintaining the "stock" appearance.
