Default Dragon/Deals Gap & Smokie Mountains (*pics added 08-13-07*)

The wife and I just got back last night from the six day trip - WHAT A BLAST! - Total seat miles was 20 short of 2,000 - half was the commute from Northern Ohio covering two days.

Rode the Dragon several times (17 minutes was my best time on the big Harley), the Cherohala Skyway twice (NC side is much more scenic than the TN side - at 5,000+ ft, it gets cold up there when the rain began!), Blue Ridge Parkway, The Foothills, Rt 441, Rt 73, Rt 28, Rt 19, Rt 276 down to Brevard, Rt 107 (what a road that is) and on and on! SO MANY ROADS, SO LITTLE TIME!

A little rain each day so the rain suits got a full workout!

Met lots of great people (thanks everyone!)
* Brad - (Deals Gap owner)gave us 5 minutes of Dragon/Gap history talk
* Tank - ran into him sitting outside room #3 at the Gap and at the overlook
* Deals Gap staff - great people, very friendly
* 3 couples from S. Illinois
* 3 bikers from the Chicago area accompanied by a truck
* Microtel staff - very helpul to bikers-the towels & hose kept my bike clean
* and on and on

We are back and itching to do it again!

Sounds like you had a great time. Wife and I did 2 days in/around Gatlinburg a couple weeks ago. Our weather was fantastic and the riding was even better! I'm also ready to go back.

The wife and I are leaving in the morning for the same area. Coming from Texas so it looks like we'll be rolling home after about 2500 miles. Looks like we may be looking at rain too. I wasn't planning on bringing the leather jackets though. With your comment on the coolness on the Cherohala, do you think a hoodie or rain jacket would suffice? Thanks.

Didn't need leather, just layers of shirts/sweatshirt and rain jacket.

HAVE FUN!

We are headed that way in Sept. We + another couple will be coming from the New Orleans area. Plan on making it a 6 day adventure as well with a Natchez Trace ride home. I can't wait!!!!!!!

Spent six days riding the area in May. I have to say that I have never experienced sweeter roads than in Tennessee. Lived in the Athens/ Sweetwater are for two years in the 80's and spent a lot of time discovering all the beautiful roads.
One thing I never, ever do is leave my leather at home. It is always in a saddlebag if I'm not wearing it.Find yourself in a situation where you wished you had itone time, and you'll never leave yours at home either.

I also will be enroute to that area in Sept. We have been there several times and have enjoyed it very much. Great people and riding in that area of the country.

Heading down to the Gap on Tuesday via the Blue Ridge Parkway from Northern Virginia, really looking forward to the trip. Can't wait!

Agree with thisstatement 100%. Never ever go on aM/Cride without a leather jacket. Especially true when the destinations are above 3000 ft. sea level, even in August.
