Just back from my first long ride on the bike ... 500 miles today and 1200 in the last few days and my rear feels just fine. I had made a bunch of changes to the seat, put some memory foam and narrowed the front, but it still wasn't comfortable for a long ride.
The key to comfort is a back rest ! ... I had a bag strapped on my motherwell rack overhanging the back of my seat to lean back into it. Eureka ! Very comfortable. I'm going to get a roll bag with a backrest. Bikers Friend seems to be the one to get ? Is there a cheaper alternative ?
Having ridden for 10 hours today the other changes I want to make are a set of footplates for my highway pegs as the basic pegs dig in after a while ... like Lolife's and I want a few more inches on the bars so will either fit 16" Apes or 14" and bigger risers. Any advice on a fairly cheap way of doing this please !
I did the same thing only used a gel pad instead. A 4" grinder works great for shaping the foam and another tip is to cut extra out where your tailbone rides, learned this from John Deere's seats very smart thinking.
This works: http://www.lazyrider.com/ although how you order on their site was beyond me last night after a couple of tins ...

I tried Gel and it didn't work for me ... too hard ... burned my **** after about 30min.
how hard was it to do your seat ,also where did you get the foam and what did you use for adhesive very interested in trying this myself
Cutting the foam I used a knife and heated it on a small blowtorch. I kept the sides with original foam so now I kinda sink into the middle of the seat. The cover is pretty easy to take off and reattach with staples (keep them short !). I'm going to recover with leather when I decide to go for black or brown. Adhesive was contact glue ... the really smelly stuff kids sniff ... called Evostick this side of the water. Foam was from a memory pillow off ebay.
