Calling all MOTORHEADS! Which cams to get for my bagger?
2007 SG...8500 MILES...SERT...BIG SUCKER...2/1 THUNDER HEADER...76HP/89TQ
I want to put a set of cams in at the 10,000 mile service. I am happy with the performance but I want all I can get out of it without doing major work or spending major money. That pretty much stops me at the cams. What would you guys suggest for this application. I ride solo and want it to pull as stronge as possible in the low to mid rpm range. Is this achievable with adding the cams or am I wasting money. I have about 1500 miles to decide.

head-quarters.com doug is as good as there is. very nice products and the knowledge to go with it. perhaps his hq-0034 cam, perhaps the hq-0039. i think r&r cycles now has the 525 cam.

I agree with this...
The HQ-500-TC is the same grind as the 0034, but it is for the 07 roller chain setup. The beauty of this cam in a Bagger is that it is very versatile. It'll be great as a bolt-in with what ya have, but if you decide to increase compression and get your heads professionally worked over, the cams will still be great ~ even better, in fact!
Most cams have a very narrow and specific window (compression ratio / head setup / etc) in which they work well. This cam is an exception.
As far as it's power band.... it's a lot like an Andrews 26 down low, but it actually peaks a little higher than the 26.

I have the HQ-0034 in my '04 EG otherwise bone stock 88 with Rinehart TD's (your 2-1 will be even better), SE a/c, and a SERT tune that doesn't ping or pop--PhilM thinks it's one of the strongest running 88" baggers he's seen.

Looks like Headquarters it is. The HQ-500-TC sounds like what I am looking for. I will give Doug a call and keep you posted.
Keep in mind a cam that works well in a TC88/95 may not in a TC96. I reference dyno charts seen here on an Andrews 26, an excellent low-to-mid cam for earlier TC's, provides little improvement on a TC96. I know I won't do a cam change without seeing a chart first.

the SE-211 cam is more for a high comp motor i went with the Andrews TW-50 basicly the same as the SE-211 but with just a little more lift but again they are designed for a high comp motor but are about as large as you can go without having to do any type of head work.

The 96" engine has been out long enough for Doug to do plenty of testing. I would not think twice about going with HQ. Doug is the MAN.................
