So, I am about to change the stock bars on my 08 Supuer Glide and the hand position kills me. Just wondering who has changed there and if you have som pics. I'd love to get some ideas. Im leaning towards Drags and som taller risers. So show me what ya got.
Take a look through recent posts. I just changed mine to drags yesterday but the risers aren't adjustable - they are integrated. I like the hand position MUCH better. I created a thread this morning here and included pix.
hatzo1 It can be done. Several guys have done it. Do a search one thread was called "FDX speedo makes me puke". It's not cheap but nothing is with a HD. I'm in the process of changing to a Street Bob tank to get rid of bar mounted speedo. There is a thread for that also. Hope that helps Smiley
Very cool , I want to do that, but again as I just bought the bike I cant get into alot of $$$ as the wife will have my you know what on a platter. So that is an option for down the road. Just looking for whats been done other than that. Thanks
Know what you mean. Ive been buying the parts off ebay for awhile and hiding them in the basement. If my wife finds them well I'll it won't be pretty. As long as I don't change the color of the bike I'm not sure she will notice. LOL
A friend of mine changed his bars on a 2006 Deuce. He knew I was unhappy with my stock bars. He almost forced me to take them from him. Then to top it off, he helped install them. The best mod to date on my bike. Love the looks and the feel. I also installed a 4" pull back risor from a Sportster Custom. Hope you find what you need.
I just changed my bars out recently too. A lot of guys seem to go with drag bars and risers, or t-bars, or whatever. Nice bars but they can cost a bit, and can involve relocating the speedo. Personally, I didn't really want to change the look of my bike, or spend a lot of money, and I definitely wanted to keep my speedo where it is since that was actually one of the features that drew me to the FXD. So luckily a mechanic at the dealership turned me on to the older Super Glide bars that I guess were stock on 2000-2005 bikes, part number 56004-00 . Even though they don't show up as an option for the later model bikes, they fit perfectly, look much the same except have very nice hand and wristpositions, and didn't require changing anything on the bike. Total cost - $45. These are very comfortable and give better bike control.
I might have attached the same pics more than once, couldn't figure out how to delete attachments.
Dont think this is what your after but it relaxes the hand position and pretty cheap to boot. These are for a Sportster but work with the Super Glide - stock cables.
I helped my buddy put 16" Apes on his '07 Street Bob. He took my '08 FXDC out for a ride, and realized what I had been complaining about. He gave me his stock Street Bob bars (throttle cables too), and helped me install them...I LOVE the comfort they have, and they look pretty sweet too!!!
