Anybody else feel the need for a lower geared 1st to get moving better, I thought it was me just not use to the 6 speeds till I checked and HD has made 1st higher geared than the 5 speeds. From 10.11 1st to the higher 9.31 in the 6 speeds. With two people and gear its real slugish to get going. Anybody done any gearing changes on the 07-08s?
I felt the exact same thing when I made my first attempt to get rolling as I left the dealer, but like the rest of you I have just adjusted to it by giving it a bit more of a twist and slipping the clutch to compensate.
It seems to me that I have a tendency to slip the clutch a little more with 2 up. Riding 1 up is fine though. A fully loaded Ultra with 375# in riders is alot of weight to get moving.
Slug is the word compared with my 02. Ive heard you can drop 2 teeth on the front belt gear and get it close to the older ratio, just thought somebody might have done it or checked into doing it.

Funny you should bring this up , there is a tech article in the Oct. issue of Hot Bike Baggers mag. on this subject. Evolution Ind. has a new front sprocket/primary chain kit available. Kit includes a 30t ( 5 tooth smaller than stock )front spocket and a 84p chain. Said change would add 450rpm at 80mph in 6th gear. Not a real big change in dyno #'s but a noticable seat of the pants feel. www.evoindusa.com part# PN EV-3084 , msrp $350
Andrews makes a kit for this also. Thinking of doing it this winter. Like Gunrunner, I went from a bike with 3.37 gearing to the '07. With the 5 speed, the 3.37 gearing was great up to 70 - 75mph, anything above that felt like the bike was screaming. I'm thinking with the 6 speed, the quicker primary will be just the ticket.
