Default To rejet or not rejet that is the question

I just got my Cycle Shack Slip Ons and was wondering if I will need to rejet? This is the only change I'm going to make. I have heard different opinons from different sites and several ndividuals. So what do you think?

WVICEMAN,

That's all I have done on my bike - added Cycle Shack Tappereds and no re-jet. I have read my plugs by getting the engine warm, running it up to 50 mph for 5 minutes, shutting off the engine (at 50 mph) and coasting to a stop. The plugs are reading good (beige-to-light brown). I will re-jet when I add my S&S AC and more air is getting into the carb. Engines can be different and differing altitudes can have an effect (I'm at sea level). I suggest you perform the same exercise as described above to ensure you're OK to go without a re-jet.

Hope this helps...

No need to rejet with just mufflers although these bikes run very lean from the factory so a touch richer wouldn't hurt it. Plug reading is not as it use to be with the removal of lead from the gas, about the only color of any sort you will get is from the gas additives and will fool you into thinking you can read the plugs when it is a very inacurate judgement of engine fuel jetting.

Here's a topic about reading plugs that will explain it a bit more... https://www.hdforums.com/m_66688/tm.htm

Good advice, but remember the part about engines being different, and todays gasoline burns much cleaner than the gas of old, as I was reminded by the technical members of this board. Plug reading is not always as reliable as it used to be, but if you read them several times over the days after the change, you should be OK if you see what thumper described. Don't be lazy and not read 'em often for several hundred miles and do it several times after the change. I did what you are doing and didn't rejet.

We had the stealer do the rejet, but we also had the V+H straight shots HS put on. I have yet to read the plugs, but I usually take a look at the pipes. I look for black soot or absence of it. Maybe I better check the plugs when the weather brakes and the sta-bil is burned off.

My new 06 had the SE II's slipons, AC and rejet before I even picked her up. Well, I was dickin around thnkin of some heal suppots when I pulled the heat sheilds off yesterday - surprise - only 250 miles and the pipes are blue as blue can get - if I'm not mistaken, this happens, but wow - there blue like 1/2 way down the pipe and I haven't even gotin on it - takin it easy while breakin it in - I'm not gona worry about it

To get the full effect of any exhaust upgrade an air filter and rejet just works together so much better. Try to do all of those at the same time and you will feel the diference.

I have a new 05 sportster and was thinking about putting screamin eagle slip ons on it. Do I need to have the jets adjusted. Thats probably the only mod I am planning to do
