Default to dyno or not to dyno that is the question

I just ordered a thunder max auto tune, d&d fat cat exhaust and d&m power flow air cleaner.
I know this will give me more power but how much?

my question is should I

Dyno before and after install?
Dyno just after installation?
Ride it and enjoy it.

Is there "stock" dyno charts for the before spec?
do both dyno runs have to be on the same dyno for a true comparison?
how much $ should I expect to pay for a dyno run?

Stock you're probably pushing about 63-65 HP, not sure of the torque. I had mine dyno'd after the stage one and I'm now at 77 1/2 hp and 92 foot pounds of torque. Not bad for the money.

Mick,

I thought one of the selling points for Thundermax was the autotune feature which says to me, you don't need a dyno tune with the Thundermax unless you just want it. Isn't TMax supposed to tune itself using data from the wide band 02 sensors that come with it? Just asking, I'm new to HDs.

It takes a while for the Thundermax to tune itself to the bike .. If ya just want the numbers wait for a couple hunderd miles first for it to tune itself to the bike...

I would ride it for a while and see. If the bike runs smooth....Save the cash. My bike ran much better after being tuned. Better meaning smoother, with what seemed to be a little more pull. With a SE air kit, SERT, and Thunderheader, I ended up at around 70hp and 80 Ft/lbs of torque. Not sure the numbers really matter. There are so many variables in the tuning setup, especially what type of dyno is being used, rider weight, etc that influence the numbers.

Unless your changing jugs, cams, injectors, etc, I would not expect to see any huge numbers like 80-90hp. It's simply not going to happen with just exhaust, air kit, and ECM tuning.

My understanding is the auto tune does not save the changes to memory. You still need a close map for when you start it. Once the tuner goes through it's cycle it will fine tune, but as soon as you shut the bike off it defaults back to the installed map. At least that's what I read on their website.
