Default 97 Heritage Springer Softail - Evo Rebuild $$$

I found a very nice showroom condition 1997 Heritage Springer Softail with about 36K miles on it - original owner and it's flawless. Looks literally brand new and he's asking 10,300 for it.

I was told that EVO's can be VERY expensive to rebuild - true of false? I am mechanically inclined, but have never tackled a Harley rebuild..

What do you think about the price?

Any ideas?

Kevin

With only 36,000 that motor should be good for a very long time if it was taken care of. I know of more then a few EVOs that have been run pretty hard but were well maintained in the 80,000-100,000 mile range. If something is wrong with the motor take a look at the HD remanufactured motors strait from the company very good prices.

36,000 miles on an EVO should be of little concern if the bike has been taken care of. I had 80,000 on one when I sold it, and as far as I know it's still going strong.

You might concern yourself a little with the price though. That bike is worth 8,000 tops.

10,300 is a great price for a showroom condition 97 Heritage Springer. What accesories are with the bike...It doesn't factor in the price until you see the prices of some of the obsolete Heritage Springer items

Check ebay...They are selling for 12-18K for mint condition. You can find some for $8500-10K, but don't expect showroom condition...

36K is barely broken in...Buy it and ride it and welcome to the Springer family.

You must be looking at a different E-Bay than I am. I saw a couple of '97's with reserves in the 13,000 range, but didn't seen any bids near that.

Average NADA retail on a '97 Heritage Springer is 8,085.00, and in the current depressed market that might be high.

A shop in Des Moines builds them for $600 + gaskets.

I've kinda been looking for a heritage springer. Doesn't seem like to bad a price for a springer in good condition. 36,000 isn't a ton of miles for a 1997. Just means its been ridden every year and isn't a garage queen. Thats only 3272 miles per year. I'd rather get one thats ridden than one that sits most off the time. If you ever do have engine problems with it you can get a ultima 120" EVO engine for about 4 grand and put it in that sucker will scream. Get it and enjoy it. On the classified here theres a 2005 springer classic with around 6,000 miles on it with a bunch of extras for 13,000 if your interested, seems like a great deal to me and no its not mine. Its in Illinois. Peace
