Default 1999 Softail Custom FXSTC - Forward Control-Shifter

Hey All

Just got a great deal on a 1999 Softail Custom with only 7K miles on it. I noticed that the forward control on the shifter is way forward on the bike. Does anyone have any recommendations for moving it back further? Maybe add some smaller foot boards and a kuryakin heel/toe shifter? Take a look at the shifter is really far forward and have to shift with your foot extended...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Kevin

Maybe you could just buy another shifter arm that's shorter.

How tall are you?
No joke here, if your inseam is shorter than 30 or so inches you may have a little difficulty shifting.
But an easy way out for you would be to first take some tape or a a marker pen and mark the position of the shifter on its shaft. Thenloosen up the shifter arm's pinch bolt, pull it off, rotate it a couple of spline teeth clockwise (more upright) and replace it.
That should get it into a more vertical position so you don't have to reach as far to get your toe under it to upshift.

Good Luck and ride safe.

Loosen the pinch bolt on the shifter peg arm and pull it off the splined shaft. Now you can put it back on in any splined postion you want and tighten in back up. The shifter linkage should be left alone.

Can't help you on your technical question. Just wanted to say thats a nice looking bike. I'm glad they brought the Custom back. Congratulations on a good deal on a great bike.

Nice looking bike!
I would ride it a little before making changes. The photo shows the shifter about where itcomes from the factory which is close for most riders. The shifter rod can be adjusted for small changes.Put some miles on it, you will probably like it about where it is.
