Have an '06 FXSTI, and every so the shifter sticks when I upshift. I give it a little tap on the side with the foot and it goes back to position. Does not happen all the time, but when it does is usually for awhile. Then the next day the shifter is fine. I have greased, and oiled every moving part along the shifter. Anyone have any ideas what a solution would be. Getting a-little annoying.
Found my softail to jam when up shifting if I have not used the bike for a few days and when it's cold. After a little time and things warm up it's OK.
Hmmm, the fact that is doesn't do it all the time has me a little stumped too. I am going to follow this thread with you and se what it ends up being if and when you find it. It sounds like something is binding up every once in a while for some odd reason. Good luck Dude and keep us posted.
Had this happen a couple times on my Heritage. Cause was from small bit of corrosion build up on the shifter shaft. Solution was to remove shifter, steel wool and polish shaft with metal polish - Brasso or other, then provide silicone lubricant to shaft. No more problems
Just like was mentioned in your thread in the off-topic section, take your shifter control arm off and sand, polish and lube that splined shaft. Just a little bit of corrosion causes it to hang after an up shift. Also, clean out the mount that the splined shaft runs through.
I've had this happen on mine two different times, and the 2nd time it would only happen in the afternoon after it warmed up, not during the cold morning part of the ride. When I took it apart, there was some surface rust on there again. Cleaned, sanded and lubed it up with anti-seize...no problems since
