Default Street Bob tach

I know alot of people have been putting ignition switch in the tank console, but has anyone tried putting a mini tach there? I'm not even sure if there's enough room under there. The new HD combo gauges are direct plug and play (acording to site) so I wouldguess there's a way to tap into that? Any ideas are apreciated...

I noticed the new HD combo guages are for 2007s or 2008s.

you would not have the room... depth wise, even the mini tach is pretty deep... i just did a LR tach install and would be more than happy to help you out if you want to try it... give it a go!

Forgive me but what is an LR tach?

I had not noticed that the combo gauges were for 07's and 08's. I guess that would mean that thetank console is pre-wired on the06's.

Basically I would like a tach but I don't want it hanging off the bars or the clamp so I'm open to other suggestions.

Thanks for the input.

ooh man i am sorry... a LR is a low rider dash... Sal C hooked me up with his old dash and i powder coated it black... from there i got on ebay and scored a tach pretty cheap, then went to HD and ordered a new guage cup, tach rubber bezel, and socket conector... the tach did not fit to well into the cup so i had to use a dremil and trim it down but it worked out just fine... from there i just followed kpreese write up on how to do a tach install (FANTASTIC BY THE WAY!!!!) http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/p...0.html#navPrev
took me 15 min doing it this way.... the hard part with my install was i did not want to loose my idiot lights (turn sig indicator, nutrl, oil, etc) so i cut the old harness, went and got some 12v LED's from radio shack and then drilled out he dash to mount them... for some reason when they get the first sig (electric current) it was frying the stock resisters in the LED so i soldered inanother 1/4- .5watt resister to the power line of each LED and that did the trick... put it all back together and it worked great! here are some pics!

I did the exact same thing that JRK did. Got a low rider console from a member here and then got the tach from another member here and then rewired everything, and included buying some 12v leds also (online purchase) and wired them up and placed them just about the same way. The leds were VERY bright, so I just used a black sharpie and used it on all the leds, so they are not so bright yet they are dark in color and hard to see unless you look closely.
All together, it was alot of time but the reward is great. I have other SB owners look at my bike for a few min. and then ask what it is. I tell them what I did and they really like it.
if you do this, just follow what JRK shows.

I too wanted the new speedo/tach gauges for my 06 streetbob but according to my dealer, Harley changed all their electrical connectors in 2007 and wiring, so this unit is not a plug n play for 2006. In addition the gear ratios are different so the speedo would not be correct.

Are you sure about that? A few people on here have had their 06 speedo replaced under warranty and ended up with an 07 part that has the 6th gear indicator. Can't imagine they'd do that if the wiring was totally different.
