Default My fustrating decel pop, backfire, pinging, sputtering Dyno tune.

Yep, I have a Fat Bob with a SE Heavy Breather, Rinehart 2 in 1 and PCIII. I got the PCIII from fuel moto and Jamie put the map on it according to my set-up.

I decided to spend the extra $$$ and get it dialed just right since I was experincing some decel pop and backfiring. So, I took it to a local Indy that has a great reputation and is a certified Power Commander tuning center. They were impressed with Jamie's map and said it was pretty much dead on. I forgot the numbers, but I wasn't impressed with them anyway. They just made a few "minor" adjustments and decided not to charge me full price. Cool.

But...on the ride home, not only am I getting decel pop and backfiring...now I'm also getting some sputtering on take off and pinging in almost every gear. When I call back they are cool about it and I make an appointment to bring it back in.

This time I talk to the dyno guy, explain everything to him and he said that some decel pop is fine...it wont hurt. But he said the backfiring, pinging and take off sputtering is bad. He also asked if all this happens when the bike is hot or cold. I said it doesn't matter...it does it all the time. Two days later the dyno guy calls and said he cant get the bike to reproduce the symptoms and said it might be my weight (I'm about 240 lb) and he is only 180. I tell him when it was stock...I never had any of these problems...including the pinging. He calls me the next day and says the bike is ready...he downloaded a different map.

This time I ride it home...I notice I didn't hear as much valve clicking (man I can't believe how much these TC96 clickty click) and the exhaust tone sounded much better (and louder). But...there was still decel pop w/ an occasional backfire. It also seemed to idle alot faster. The pinging was reduced drastically but was still evident in the higher gears.

I'm at a loss!!! I'm no wrench by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm also no stranger to motorcycles...I've been riding crotch rockets and dirtbikes for over 30 years and I know when a bike isn't running properly.

I'm starting to think that spending all this money to make the bike run better is just a waste!!!! I should of left it stock.

Sorry guys...end of my rant and those of you that stayed with me and read this complete post thankyou and sorry it was so long.

EDIT: My numbers - 70.21 max HP and 88.41 max Torque.

did it run better with the fuelmoto map?

i had mine tuned a while back and I determined that the tuner was a moron.

you need to add fuel at 0% throttle position. this will help decel pop.

standard powercommander maps do not add fuel at 0% throttle - but fuelmoto may have done this. helps cold hesitation as well.

you need a laptop to look at this yourself.

fuelmoto will probably resend you the initial map if you need it.

Bring it back again... don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings. Promise 'em a 12 pack if they get it right. You'd spend an extra $10 to get it right, no? Don't want 'em peeing in your gas tank.

Not necessarily. I have a laptop but I'm reluctant to start messing with it.

I have kept my cool through out this ordeal and so have they. They are very receptive in helping and seem fustrated at not being able to figure it out either.

I'm taking it back in this Saturday and will be sticking around while they get it tweaked.

I love the ideal of offering up a 12pk of his favorite beer when he gets it right. I might even stick around and help him drink it. LOL

I got a map for my bike from Fuel Moto also. I still had popping on decel until I added fuel at 0% throttle from about 1500rpm to redline. I added 25 but I think I could lower it a little, maybe back down to 20. It rarely pops on decel now unless I'm really revving it andgetting on it.
If you want brypink, you could send me your map and I could add 20 to the 0% throttle position to your map like i did to mine then you could upload that to your PC III. If you don't like it or it didn't help then you could always just put the original map back on. If it does help some then you know you are headed in the right direction. Worth a shot.

Thanks for the offer. I think I will take it back and I'll give them a mention about that...see what they say.
