So, I see a lot of you guys using 6th gear at 65mph.... I couldn't even think about getting into 6th until about 80-85 mph. It would probalby just lug and die right there on the freeway....I'm usually just getting into 5th around 60-65...no tach of course but by sound it just sounds like it's lugging in 6th unless I'm at high speed... Pipe in with your opinion....

On my 07 I can use 6th at 55 mph just fine ususally I wait until 60 though.
I am finding the gearing on the 07 is better in the higher gears than my 06 was.

I tend to stay in each gear a little longer than most probably do, so I don't use 6th much around town. Actually, I usually run the **** out of it. I sure love to hear those pipes sing when I wind it out! If you're headed for top speed, fifth gear needs to get you well over 100mph.

I believe your owners manual references what speeds to shift at. If I remember correctly, it may be for downshifts only. Check it out. I haven't installed the thunderheader yet, so I have to **** my head to the side before I shift to hear the rpms.

i never shift by speed,only by the feel,and by the sound. did it this way all my life,seems to work 4 me .

Took me soooo very long to get this myself.. I was so conserned about the mechnics and the math ( speed/rpm etc..) of shifting I wasn't paying attention to what the bike wanted to do... If you listen it wil let you know....
