Default AirTail Shocks by Progessive Suspension?

Just last weekend I installed lowering bolts on my OE shocks. Being that I only dropped it about an inch, it still rides great. However, just yesterday a friend called to advise me that he found a new set of Airtail shocks that he forgot he had. He got them about 5 years ago but never installed them. He said he'd let me have them for just $250.00. Of course it's just the shocks, no compressor.

I spent a lot of time between yesterday & today searching & reading numerous threads on the Airtails and I'm getting mixed reviews.

I'd like to hear the opinions of people that currently have, or have had them on their bikes. I'm only dropping the bike an inch and I'd like to know what I can expect for ride quality? Being that I've read some issues of seals failing, it would be nice to know how long you've had them, or how many miles you've put on them.

Thanks

Yeah, well unfortunately this particular thread is worthless in this section. I posted it in the Softail section but it got moved here. Anybody that's already had them for a while certainly wouldn't be thinking of coming here to see if somebody is asking for opinions.

One week, one response says it all. If this was left in Softails where I originally posted it, we'd have plenty of valuable responses. It's a great forum and you can get answers to anything you need ... except Air Suspension.

This sub-forum is clearly ineffective. Oh well, bummer.

I have Airtail on my 02. I like it.. It's the barhopper, with high apes and LePera bare bones so comfort isn't great.

But the airtail is fantastic. Before the transformation it was the best riding bike in the stable.

PanHeadRich, sorry this didn't generate the flow you wanted.

I had a great discussion with Dr. V here:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/air-s...nightrain.html

But we ended up talking shotguns, not progressives. Obviously I don't have 'em, but the general info I got from searching around here wasn't as positive about them as the shotguns.

Did you PM the mods about this? Maybe they'll relent.

Thanks hspring03, but I'm a bit confused with your statements. Does the Airtail make the bike ride less comfortable?

Before what transformation? It was the best riding bike in the stable before adding the Airtail?

Thanks drbald1, I'll read up on that link. One of my concerns with the Airtails is leaking seals. I've read more that one post about them leaking at only 3 to 5 years old. I'd like to know how common that is. I really don't want to sacrifice much on ride quality either. I realize the Shotguns are the hot ticket, but we're talking $250 vs. $1500.

Nah, didn't bother to discuss it with the mods, screw it. But thanks

The apes and the lepera made the bike uncomfortable.

As a Stock set up the Airtail was the most comfortable bike I had.

After I "barhopped" it is now my 50 mile ride.

Before and afters.. Hope that's a little better... In short. I highly recommend the Airtail

Oh, I hear ya! If it were me I'd put 'em on. At that price it's worth it just to figure out if you like air suspension enough to dish out any more cash!

Wow, love the before & after pics, great job. Many thanks for the clarification, understood loud & clear now. I'll be lifting the bike and dropping the rear wheel this weekend to change my rotor & pulley, guess I'll drop the shocks & swap as well

You're right bud. If for any reason I decide I don't like them, I can easily unload them on eBay for what they're costing me.

I'll be wrenching this weekend and loving it! Thanks guys
