Default Need to change 18" apes to 12"

Im looking a buying a wide glide that already has 18" apes installed.....But the problem is, is that they are way too tall for my liking.
Is it an easy change back to 12"? Will I need to change out the brake and clutch cables? (Is that a relatively easy thing to do) And lastly, can I just hide the excess wiring under the tank?
Appreciate any insight. Thanks.

More than likely, yes, you will need to replace the clutch, throttle (and return), and the brake cables. Thats a six inch difference and there will probably be a lot of slack left over. Its not hard, but its definitely something that easier to do with a buddy.

Good luck!

Thanks. I kinda figured I'd have to replace them.
O'well, I'll learn something new.

How can you NOT like 18'' apes? I had 19''s and still regret having sold them for z-bars...oh well. Saving my money for a pair of Menace Apes from Carlini...a forum member has them here and they look killer.

No law says you have to change the cables if you're ok with your clutch, throttle/idle and brake lines being way too long and flappin in the wind.

Not under the tank persay...in the backbone of the frame under the tank. Depending what year bike, there may be a small plastic cover on the bottom of the backbone at the neck (ya know, where your front end swivels left to right at the frame) above the front cylinder. That's the one closest to your front wheel. It may be snug in there as other wiring is stored there too.
