Default 14" Apes on a WG

Looking for some opinions here...I love the look of apes and want to put them on my 04 wg, question is 14" apes gonna look much different than my current 10" mini ones or do I need to do 16" apes? Also looking for advice on swapping out the cables...

Yes, they will look quite a bit different, but even thats relative. There are so many 14 inch apes its nauseating. Just how different manufactures measure them can give a person fits. I happen to think 14's look the best on your era Wide Glide, but thats just my opinion. I'm sure people will post up with pictures since a bunch of people run 14's, but do a lot of home work. Things like width, pull back and actual height will play a huge part in whether your happy. Especially since if your going with 14's or bigger your going to need a clutch cable, throttle cables and a brake hose. Not to mention extended wiring. Thats a reasonably serious investment so you want to get it right the first time. I didn't, I went with 12's and now I'm wanting 14's myself as well.

I actually put 12" apes on my '10 FXDWG. The '10-'11 models have stock drags on 4.5" risers. I kept the risers. I know that you're looking at 14"-16" so it's not exact, but you can check out my album to see what it looks like.

I agree with BL's comments. You're going to want to be sure about what you want before you start. It's not trivial.

Yeah, I agree with u both, there's alot more to this decision then just up and getting 14" apes. I've even considered 4" risers with my stock 10" bars. My husband supports my decision to get apes, but I wanted some input from people who have experienced changing handlebars and all that entails. I've been searching for the specs on my bike, yo see what the width and pullback and height are on the ones I got, but I've had no luck. So I guess now, I'm gonna measure it myself and go from there

I am a big fan of Paughco and Road 6. Both seem to make pretty good stuff. Paughco lists all their bars with great detail. Browsing threw their spec sheet might be of some help.

Nice ride dynhd1! I'm only 5'7", on a good day. But I do love the way those apes make your WG look! I'm gonna do some measuring before I go jumping into the 14"ers.

Mine are Flanders bars. Found them in the Drag Specialties Fatbook. Nothing but satisfied with them.

I have 10" apes on a 4" riser. Really comfy at 6'4"'tall and 260. But I want a drag bar setup next I think. Good luck man remember it all possible!
