Visual Difference Between 88 & 103

Unless the 103" motor is one built on the early 4" stroke 88" platform, that motor is not a direct bolt in; major difference in hooking up with the drive train and motor mounts are completely different from '10 and up IIRC. With enough time and money, I guess you could overcome the installation obstacles; however, you could build a strong running 98" motor for much less in time and money than would be required to install the 103" motor in you early bike. JMHO.

If you want to go big and have the money, a 117" build is also an option.
Then there is the S&S crate motor option for a 124". Pick your poisin.

In 2007, HD changed to a six speed. While doing this, they also changed the crank shaft from a square spline with a nut to hold compensator in place to a fine tooth spline with a bolt holding things in place. If keeping the five speed, you will need to buy a different crank. You will also need to use the five speed oil pan, too, IIRC.
I have been telling folks what DLJ just said... buy a 4 3/8 SE crank (which will have the square splines and nut, rebuild the engine you have, and make it either a 113 or a 117.
