Carbs
I have a 91 ultra classic, I was reading service manual this morning about idle rpm's. The reason I was looking at this in the manual I noticed after riding bike for about 15 min I stopped at a traffic light and the rpm's at idle was around 600-700 rpm's. I was reading service manual and it said that normal idle rpm speed should be 1000. I also read if the rpm's isn't at 1000 adjust idle speed to reach 1000. I probably already know the answer, but just wanted to make sure with people with a little bit more knowledge. Do I turn the idle screw clockwise to increase and counter clockwise to decrease?Like I said I read the manual but it doesn't say anything of how many turns or which way to turn, it just says adjust.

You have it right. In any case, you'll know right away if you have it wrong.
Make sure the engine is up to full operating temperature, give her a bit of adjust. Blip the throttle a few times to let her settle in. Adjust from there. There's no fixed "number of turns". Just adjust it until you have the idle where you want it.

Just finished it and it's backup to 100. But seeing that Harley shop suppose to do a carb recall work on it tomorrow I could have let them do it, but I wanted to adjust idle to give me a warm fussy feeling when I'm stopped at idle and it doesn't sound like it's about to shutoff. Thank You for help

If the welch plug that blocks the air/idle screw has not been removed to access that circuit, it needs to be removed/discarded and the air/idle screw needs to be set at 2 1/2-3 turns out.
Then set the idle at approx 1000 rpms.

Sorry Omaha, I never got your question on my phone update. But the recall was issued back Nov 30, 1992, NHTSA Campaign Number 92V173000, Component: Fuel System. The Fuel Inlet Needle does not seal properly against the fuel inlet seat. The HD shop said if the carb is concentric it was a simple replace fuel inlet needle. If the carb is non concentric they have to replace the carb. Which I hope it's non concentric so they can put a newer carb in it, which they found one that's a 98. I'll let you know later of what up with that. Just took it in this past Sat.
