If you decide to replace it you do not want a solid sprocket! Use a direct stock replacement. I doubt if you will find many posts amongst Evo owners having problems with them. I replaced mine due to worn teeth only. Those things are normally rock solid and the basic design goes back to the '40s and was used right through to the TC88s.

Cut a quarter of an inch off the threaded end of the compensator nut (the end that goes towards the motor) when you retorque it makes sure that everything lines up before you apply final torque as I have seen then hang up before.

That sounds interesting Spanners, mine has a worn out spring pack, will cutting a 1/4 inch off the nut squeeze it together more?

If your spring is knackered, buy a new one! I wouldn't shorten that screw either. Those are critical parts, as a torque of 160 ft.lbs emphasises!

Installed the Vulcanworks sprocket this morning and went for about a 30 mile ride on the highway and back streets. I'm not feeling any of the firing pulses that others have described. My engine seems to be not as noisey as before and the vibration I had between 2000 and 2500 rpm is a lot less, not gone but a lot less. I have to say that my bike is a lot more pleasurable to ride. Even at idle it seems to move around less, initial impession is very good, overall the bike just feels better. I'm pleased with it!! I'll add more as I put more miles on it. Hope this helps any evo owners out there.
