My friend's softail was running poorly and we figured out the carb needed to be rebuilt. Sure enough the accelerator pump diaphragm was shot. I rebuilt the carb, tuned it and it ran like a champ. We then put the air cleaner backing plate and cover back on and it now runs terrible. No the filter is not dirty. Also, where the pushrod for the diaphragm pump comes through the rubber boot is now leaking fuel.

any suggestions?

 

accel/ pump or should i say enricher is sticking. free it up is it hung up on back plate .

 

Sounds like a good one. The screws that hold the enrichener lever can't be too tight, and you have to make sure the lever is properly engaged with the enrichener plunger when putting the backplate assembly back on.

BUT...when you rebuilt the carb...were you precise and careful? Because I have seen more than one person forget to check and reinstall the acc pump check ball. Also the acc pump diaphragm is a bit fragile...did you inspect the new one first and make sure not to damage it when installing?
