1933 Harley-Davidson VL Build: Part 1
My 1933 VL build is underway and I'll be giving you a chance to follow along with the entire project, start to finish, here at HDForums. My first article covers preparing my matched '33 cases for rebuilding. It gives a good idea of just how much work goes into restoring each part when doing a complete ground up build like this one.
Check it out on the HDForums homepage: 1933 Harley-Davidson VL Build: Part 1

Awesome project! This is what I would like to see a tv show about. I don't relate to the fake biker shows. I would love to see a show about restoring classic motorcycles from start to finish. I think it would be totally amazing to hear and see different motorcycle fired up again after decades of not being ridden of used.

One of the things I hope to bring to light with this build is how easy it is to work on these old motorcycles. Sure there are some tricks and some specialty tools that I'll be using along the way, but I guarantee you won't need a degree in computer science to set up the ignition system.

I'll be following this regularly, as well as the eventual story of your cross-country trip, with great interest! What a worthwhile project and wonderful adventure this will be! (I'm very jealous!)
Are you posting this on the AMCA forums also?

I have a build thread on the AMCA forums, but the articles you read on the HDForums homepage won't be posted anywhere else. The main idea is for the HDForums articles to be more of an overview and then I'll be posting articles on Riding Vintage that get into the details for those that want to build their own antique HD.

No oil scraper rings?? where where all the Harley engineers that day? Is that why in the old movies, you see a lot of smoke pour out of the cars in old day when they idle and then pull out? ......... Not sure how you did all that welding and kept the case face from looking like a cup when you mated it back up to it's mate? you're the man
