Still working on getting the primary off this shovelhead. I have all the bolts out, starter out, solenoid out but the case is getting caught up on a little piece of metal on the shaft that holds the clutch. I dont know what its called but Im gonna post pics. The close up shows the little raised metal piece keeping the case from coming off. Not sure how to get around it.

all i see is the key way has to be removed on the main shaft -- and as long as the front bottom bolt is out by the kickstand it should come off -- jz

Take the key out of the keyway.

You don't need to get around that piece...It comes out.
It might be stuck in there pretty good, just take a small punch and a hammer and tap it out.

Just mess with it a little bit...I've seen them be pretty tight and I've seen them just about fall out.
The keyway is ramped at the tranny end so when you tap it, it won't go anywhere that you don't want it to.
Don't beat the **** out of it...Just kind'a tap it.

That little doodad is called a woodruff key.
They are easy to lose (or should I say misplace) so keep good track of it.
I "lost" one recently and had to buy one.
Of course, I found it after the bike was back together with the new key.
