Default Primary chain

Have a 1979 FLH. Adjusted the primary chain and it is slapping the inner primary only when I pull in the clutch. Think the chain may be worn out . Any Ideas would be appreciated thanks!!

guys will tell you they get 100,000 miles out of a chain - in my shop we throw them away at 35,000 miles - it is adjusted on the tightest spot in the chains travel in the circle if it does something else change it - no china chain - usa or japon

I agree with John, but there's not much room between the inner primary and the chain anyway. Might not hurt to pull plugs and rotate the chain with the clutch engaged and observe, then with the clutch not engaged and see if you can tell what's up. Was it doing that before you adjusted it?

Lack of lubrication will kill a new chain in only a few miles. If you have an isolated primary you must keep up on the oil level or you will fry the chain and the nylon adjuster.

Pay attention here the cheap $50 primary chains going around Ebay won't last 5,000 miles if your lucky , Tsubaki or a good US brand .

Yes it was lonslow. Adjuster is maxed out so I figured thats what it might be. I've had it ten years and it has never been changed. Just wanted the bearings behind the clutch basket. Thanks guys i appreciate the help.
