Default Can't remove outer primary

Okay went to remove my outer primary today on my 1983 FXR to replace Bendix gear and it looks like the starter jackshaft it's stuck in the needle bearing on the outer primary. Has anyone ever had this happen and any tips on how to remove it tried tapping with a rubber mallet where the little housing is on the outer primary but that didn't work. Don't want to pull too hard afraid of messing up the jackshaft or something else any help would be greatly Appreciated.

Remove the pivot shaft and it will pull right out.

I don't seem to be able to remove the pivot shaft without first having outer primary off I'm trying to give you a picture to work with. It says nothing in the factory manual about having to remove the pivot shaft to get the outer primary off it just says remove primary case

If the jackshaft is stuck in the needle bearing like you said...removing the pivot shaft will allow you to pull the jackshaft out of the starter...you may even have to remove the solenoid and wiggle the fork while you fish the pivot shaft out with a magnet.

This is not the "factory manual" way of doing it...it is a "work around" because the jackshaft is stuck in the bearing.
