Default Cleaning gas tank after paint, for hook up.

Attn people that have painted their gas tanks. What are some steps you used to clean your tank out, before reconnecting the fuel pump and lines?

I may have some overspray and debris in the tank, i want to clean it properly before pouring some gas into it and firing the bike up. What are some good steps one should take?

I couldn't find anything in search except for gas tank paint prep. i'm talking about after that's all done.

LOL I've painted a bunch of tanks.... Never got anything in them. If you masked off the fuel pump outlet and the gas cap you should be fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

my prob is when i shake the damn thing, I can hear particles inside bouncing around. most likely due to sand blasting.

Take it to a Bodyshop. Have them hit the inside with a blow gun. Prob do it for free.

^^^That. Attempting to wash it out with any sorts of liquids may cause the particles to stick to the inside and come loose later down the road. That fuel pump mount is a big ole hole, stick a blow gun in it and give it a good blasting.

when my tank came back from painter, i swilled it out with a pint of fuel a few times and lots of crap came out,
reason i did this, coz mate of mine had i bigger tank sprayed for his 48, on refitting his bike ran like crap. took it to stealers big bill $$$ to clean out.
If he had known it was over spray in tank he could have cleaned it and saved $$$.

swish it with kerosene and dump it out into a mason jar a few times (until no more stuff comes out with the kerosene)...
